Hi flower tribe! I created a quick and easy Poinsettia care guide.

Since we see this flower most in the cold winter holiday months, it may surprise you to know that the poinsettia plants are actually  native to Central America. They do best in warm temperatures and love sunlight .

Care tips

1️⃣Make sure your poinsettias are placed near a window that gets a lot of sunlight. Be careful though since some windows are drafter then others. You don’t want your plant to be on top of a cold draft or touching a cold window pane.

2️⃣Poinsettias do well in house day temps of 60-75 Fahrenheit. Keep these and all plants away from direct sources of heat such as stoves or heating ducts.

3️⃣Watering poinsettias can often be confusing. The trick to watering a poinsettia is to make sure you don’t add too much moisture. Over watering is a common mistake and I’ve done this many times in the past. Poinsettias do best when their soil  is allowed to dry out a bit in between waterings. If the plant is getting too much water, the leaves may curl, yellow and look dried out. When we see the leaves looking all dried out, our instincts tell us to add more water to hydrate the plant. Adding more water only exacerbates the situation and causes more leaves to drop and eventually the plant with die.

4️⃣Here is the trick to watering your poinsettias. Check the potting soil each day with your finger. If the soil seems very moist, leave it alone. When the soil surface feels dry, water the plant until water begins to flow out the bottom of the pot.
